LONGEVITY TIPS
- If your car will be placed in storage for an
extended period of time, be sure the tank is full. This will prevent
moisture condensation inside the fuel tank.
- Do not operate your car with the fuel tank cap
missing or with a substitute such as cloth rag. The fuel cap is part of
the emission control system and prevents the release of gasoline vapors from the
fuel tank. Furthermore, a fuel cap can prevent fuel theft or fuel tank
vandalism.
- In very cold weather, consider periodically adding
a can of fuel line anti-freeze (not coolant antifreeze) to the fuel tank.
This will prevent any moisture in your tank from forming water crystals
that could block the fuel line.
- It is preferable to use the vehicle manufacturer's
replacement part when installing a new filler cap. Some fuel tanks
require specially designed filler caps to properly regulate pressure and vacuum
relief. As a result, generic aftermarket
replacement caps are often unsuitable substitutes.
